Week 3

Okay HUGE jump from day 3 to week 3, I know. But hey – good news! I lost 4 pounds the first week and at the end of the second week, I lost 1.6 lbs despite falling off the wagon a few times during the week, so I am well chuffed. And, I am under the 70 kilos mark for the first time in 6 months so woohoo! Aunty Flo paid me a visit at the start of week 2, so apart from two walks I didn’t do much by way of exercise but I am hoping to change that from this week on.

Starting tomorrow, I hope to restart Jillian Michaels’ 30 day Shred. I have started it twice before, never progressing beyond level 2. I am hoping it will be a case of third time lucky and I stick to it!

Upon completion of this, I have more in my workout kitty – the Biggest Loser workout DVD. Bring it on!

Day 3..

.. and result! I just hopped on the scales this morning and lo and behold! My weight has dropped by a kilo and more excitingly, my body fat % has dropped by 2%! Yayy!

A recap of yesterday – ate sensibly all day. Brekkie was the same Day 1 – eggs and beans and a piece of toast, followed by fruit. One change was that I snacked on the Mullerlight fat free yogurts that SW promotes. I tried one and I shan’t be doing so again unless I am real desperate cos the bleddy thing was full of sugar! Another thing I won’t touch with a barge pole is their “Free” Fry Light cooking spray. The flipping thing contained around 50% oil – the rest was all stuff to beef it up, make it spray and all that jazz. NO THANK YOU! I have a perfectly working oil sprayer, which is always topped up with good quality Extra Virgin Olive oil and I shall squirt it a couple of times and consider myself satisfied!

Back to grub – lunch was leftovers, aka 1/2 jacket potato and LOTS of chili (made with zero fat) and a big ass leafy salad. Then coffee and dinner was one fajita, with lots of fillings – made of quorn mince, left over aduki beans from the day before, red onions and red peppers. I also padded the fajita with lots of shredded lettuce and chopped tomatoes and finally, with a tbsp of mozzerella, from my allowance. Alles gut!

Today, for Breakfast, I am having some porridge, topped up with fresh fruit. For lunch it will be a serving of chunky minestrone soup, coupled with a wholemeal toast. If I still feel peckish, I aim to have some cottage cheese for afters – I much prefer that to the so-called “free” Mullerlight. Anything that packed in sugar has no right to be “Free”, IMO. As always, two cups of coffee, made with skimmed milk and a tsp of sugar, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. For dinner, I shall make a risotto with butternut squash and a wee bit of chilli, served with a nice veg salad and a tbsp of coleslaw.

Exercise and fitness

Sedentary will describe my current lifestyle perfectly, thanksverymuch. Before the summer break, I was a member of the local LA Fitness gym; a meh sort of place, with outdated machines and all that  but it had one thing I really liked – a kick-ass group fitness program called Body Combat. Body Combat was a mix of martial arts forms such as karate, kickboxing, thai boxing etc set to some peppy music. And I really enjoyed it. The workouts were pretty intense and they went on for 45 mins – 1 hour. I did this twice a week and worked out on a combo of treadmill – rowing machine – weights – mat work on another day. And I was pretty happy.

Then they went and closed down the creche at the gym and I couldn’t find an inexpensive childcare option for my young daughter so I moved her to the local nursery and fitness took a beating.

But I intend to take charge again and change things. I aim to do two things to start with – go walking thrice a week and alternate it with a pilates DVD workout on three days. Soon, I aim to change things around and incorporate some different workout routines like the brilliant Biggest Loser Workout.

For now, I shall take a hike!
