Things are a bit hairy here. The Mintlet has a severe case of nappy rash. I thought liberally applying Sudocreme would make it disappear but now it is day 3 and it is spreading. To see the angry red rashes across her tender butt is heartrending. She twists away if you try to change her nappy. But of course now, I have to change it much more frequently.

I want to see how it is tomorrow and decide if I should take her to the doctor or not.

We had just been to the doctor’s today, for her MMR and some other jab. When I mentioned to the nurse that the baby has a bad case of nappy rash, Nurse just told me to apply some nappy cream, all the time exclaiming what a lovely baby The Mintlet was, for not bringing the house down after getting a jab each in her thighs.

I want to get into an outdoor routine for her. Playgroups on Wednesdays and a Mum-and-child swimming session on Fridays. But things aren’t working so well in that area. I really need to pull up my socks and get to it!

Why is it even the simplest of things can cause a parent to

Last night, I felt the baby move for the first time. The poor thing might have been waving its wee arms for all its worth for ever by now but it took all this time for it to break through the layers of fat and reach me! I was reading somewhere that you might start feeling some light flutters around week 16 but didn’t give it a thought cos it ended with a statement like “this is for regular women – not you fat bozos!”

But then, last night, I really felt it! P was asleep and hubby was deep in Horizon so it was a private moment. Well not any more! Earlier in the day, P and I had looked at the Babycentre pregnancy update for week 16 and read that the baby would be roughly the size of a pear right about now. This lead to some comical moments with P positioning a pear across my tummy and then over on his! So when I felt something later, I had visions of a pear-shaped being with limbs floating about and waving! (Yeah that’s the way to take the ‘awww’ factor out of things and take it right onto gross territory!)

Let’s hope the baby chooses this method to let me know all’s well inside there and gives up its current way of making me throw up whenever and wherever!

P’s school had the Nativity plays performances this week. Last year he was a narrator and had lines to say. This year, he was cast as a shepherd and didn’t have much to do other than walk about and sleep (or so he claimed). I was convinced he was going to be draped in old curtains with a pot holder on his head and the reality wasn’t too far off!

Having no lines to say, the ‘actors’ kept fidgeting away but none more so than my child. Everytime I tried to zoom in without the Headteacher finding out, he was either yawning or picking his nose! Also I was late going in so couldn’t get a nice spot from where I could hide the camera and film the proceedings. S had to be satisfied with just a few pix and couple of dodgy videos. Here’s one for your viewing pleasure.

A mother’s response when her son’s wedding preparations ends up in a spirited tug-of-war:

“It doesn’t matter, sweetheart. If I who have given birth to, raised and loved my son for almost 30 years will not be ready to adjust for his sake, how can I expect some girl who has known him a few months to make things easy for him? Can she love him more than I do? It’s up to me to ensure that he doesn’t get torn between wife and mother. Let him do what she wants. After all any plans we make thinking that we are giving him a grand wedding are actually uncle and my dreams and plans… they give us happiness – not necessarily him – and that is selfish. The truth is that his happiness lies in seeing her happy and not having to fight her out to keep his parents happy. Love flows downwards .. do you love your parents as much as you love your son? So let the girl’s people do what they want. We will go along with anything to see him happy. Whoever loves more, gives more.”
