Just got back from our holiday last night. Nightmare, food-wise. Being preg and a proper veggie is a hellish combo as far as Disneyland food is concerned. See leaves, stuff your face, seems to be the thinking. I shall get into that later.
But for now, I am steaming. I had some coleslaw one night and have been worrying ever since about the ‘eat no raw eggy product’ preggie rule ever since. This morning has been spent in trying to speak to a midwife who can appease my mind and essentially say ‘you had just a couple of spoonfuls? now quit worrying!’ to me. So far, I have drawn a blank.
I live in, let’s say, Booville and have decided to have my baby in the nearby Bashville. But my GP surgery, when giving me the choice of hosps between the one in Bashville and another in nearer Rroomville (ah jeez!) didn’t tell me that their midwife supports only those that chose to have their babies at the latter hosp. Now, I rang my hosp who said the antenatal appointments are the GP’s concern. GP says as I am going to have my baby at the Bashville hosp, their midwife cannot help me as she cares for those deliverables at Rroomville. So I am stuck in some sort of ante-natal no man’s land. Just peachy, eh?
I wonder why people act surprised when I say I want to leave this brilliant place for the shores of home, where at least I can be assured of some decent medical care as long as they know my money’s solid! *sigh*

I had a similar experience when i was pregnant here in London. I moved homes during my 7th month and moved boroughs so was kept shuttled between the two borough GPs..
GP in my new area did not have a midwife attached to the clinic and since the doctor could not be asked, he said I should go to old area GP. Old area GP said i should go to new area, you get the picture.. Finally i went to the doctor for my regular checkups, but i think having access to a mid-wife is much much better – they are more friendly, predict when the baby will be born and such fun things.. whereas the doctor was curt to say the least… Sorry for the long comment.
No worries- and welcome to my blog.
This GP fuss is like part of the territory where healthcare in UK is concerned, I suppose. I went through something like what you did the first time around, thanks to moving houses. I had foolishly assumed I would be in a better position this time.
ugh, what a welcome, huh? I’m sorry
but coleslaw should be ok unless consumed by the gallonful. something about the acids in the cabbage and cooking. dont they have a midwife at your hospital? I’m sorry if thats a stupid question – it’s just the childbirth is all greek to me and I didnt get any of that.
You know what it is Ams – too much / too little science. I read something re listeria and uncooked eggs and decided to panic a bit. Why the heck couldn’t a body come on the fone and just say ‘yeah no worries mate?’ The midwife at hosp cannot help me cos of area issues – or so am told. My mind boggles. sigh so what is new eh?
I’m sure you’ll be alright. Hope your doctors and midwives get sorted out- it sounds quite mind-boggling. How did P enjoy gay Paree and Disney?
Yep he did, thanks for asking! Bit of a bore for me tho, as I couldn’t go on any of the interesting rides
okay they dont give us this raw egg rule in india and so far i’ve had two kids who’ve turned out okay. any problems should be blamed on the mother’s nuttiness not on raw eggs.
as for the rest. well atleast you’ll be at home for baby # 3
Oh we have no raw eggs rule, no soft cheese rule, as well as a few other gems. I don’t have to worry about pineapple and other ‘hot’ food stuff on the other hand, though.
Baby # 3? *gasp* You wouldn’t wish that on me, would you? What have I ever done to you, you minx?!
Hey,
I just found out 2 days ago that I am pg with our first. OH and I are delighted but also very anxious and hoping that things will work out till week 12. I have scheduled my first doc’s appt and was told that i should think about where i want to deliver because that will dictate antenatal visits etc. As you can imagine, the mind is in a jumble! Not only do I need to decipher the difference between a midwifery unit and a maternity unit and decide whether i wld rather go to the rather suspect maternity unit which is just 2 miles up the road or choose to go brand new but unvouched for midwifery unit that is 4.5 miles away. Wld love to chat and pick your brains. I have no friends who have experience in this delicate matter at all! I wish i was pg last year when there was such a lovely doula gang going in the blogosphere. Sigh!
