awww....i feel for you. this summer thayir sadam and maavadu seems such a staple in my house too. We got the pakkathu veetu maami to make a big batch of maavadu for us. deal - we supplied the manga she made the pickle. gobbless her.

About the Iyengar - i figured that out as it almost seems like no one else says karamadhu these days ;) I also have to admit to being a kathrikkai lover like you. can have it an many forms as it can be made. You should try stuffed kathirikkai kozhambu sometime. If i ever have the guts to put up my blog - i'll put up the recipe. If you want it - mail me - i'll send it to you.

Sheesh...i haven't yet commented on the resemblance bit...but its becoming longer than your post...so i shall desist.

Welcome, welcome to my blog. A friend of mine made me taste this maavadu when i visited her last year - it was like out of the world! Best maavadu I'd ever tasted. I've since asked my family to desist making their own and get it from that lady instead!!
Feel free to comment away as much as you want - I love hearing from my readers. And pls do send me the recipe - my id is desigirl dot blog at googlemail dot com. Thankoo!

liked your iyengar maami thing. I am telugu and my husband is north indian. MIL wants my baby to inherit their side characteristics and guess wat boo boo loves to eat dal, chawal n pickle, pulihora and curd....

And of course, it is your fault that your child is sooo telugu and not their side-ish, right? I only wish the baby looks like me, cos P looks a lot like his dad and I am tired of hearing smug comments 'oh he is the abso carbon copy of S' said with such authority that I badly want to punch their lights out!!

um, why not switch to an organic brand of rice? as for pickle - yeah, you're screwed. unless you want to get some mangoes and pickle it yourself. which isnt that difficult but is a bit of a stresser first time you do it.

Everything other than plain raw rice makes me barf, Ams - even the smell is a big turn off. As for pickling the mangoes meself, I cheerfully would - if I could get the darned things! :(
